Join us on Tuesday, March 4 for an AAEP Virtual Dialogue featuring Dr. Patty Bode and AAEP alumni Dr. Ramya Ravisankar and Megan Fitze, who will be exploring “Arts for Change” and the role that the advocacy plays in their work as arts educators across a variety of settings. Join the Zoom Webinar virtually, which will be followed by a live Q&A with the speakers or RSVP to attend the lunch and learn in person at The Barnett Center Collaboratory. Dr. Bode and the Remember Love Recovery Project will be hosting an artmaking workshop from 10 until noon in the Collaboratory. RSVPs required for the artmaking workshop and the in-person lunch and learn. This dialogue is one in a series designed specifically for our Online MA In Art Education students, made possible by a grant from the Center for Career and Professional Success.
Megan Fitze currently serves as the Executive Director for Art Possible Ohio, previously serving as Director of Programs, and has been with the organization since 2019. She has worked for the Massillon Museum as Education and Outreach Manager where she co-established an accessibility committee, created audio descriptive and sensory tours, and developed a sensory room. Before Massillon Museum, Megan worked with Dublin Arts Council, the Columbus Metropolitan Library, and Global Gallery, a Fair Trade non-profit, in Columbus, Ohio. In her free time, Megan loves traveling all over Ohio with her husband, Josh, and son, Wesley, to experience the diverse cultural institutions and events Ohio offers. She currently serves on the Arts Now Arts & Culture Inclusion Council and the Ohio Museums Association Accessibility Committee.
Patty Bode brings anti-racist, anti-bias arts activism to PK12 public schools, higher education, museums and community settings such as shelters for the unhoused, prisons and health clinics. She is Associate Professor and Coordinator of Art Education at Southern Connecticut State University, and founder of the Remember Love Recovery Project, which uses art and education to destigmatize addiction disorder and end overdose.
Dr. Ramya Ravisankar is a multidisciplinary artist, designer, educator, and administrator based in Columbus, Ohio. Dr. Ravisankar holds a Ph.D. in Arts Administration, Education, and Policy from The Ohio State University, and an M.F.A in Studio Art from Pratt Institute, shaping her unique perspective and background in the arts. She has shown her artwork in various venues, with notable exhibitions such as group shows at All People Arts in Columbus, Ohio, and the Jamaica Center for Arts and Learning in New York in connection with the South Asian Women’s Creative Collective. Ravisankar has also presented and published her research in various national and international conferences and publications. Dr. Ravisankar is an Associate Professor at Columbus College of Art & Design, imparting knowledge in fine arts, art history, and design. Furthermore, she actively participates on the boards of BexArts, the Bexley Community Arts Council, and the Remember Love Recovery Project, allowing her to explore her arts advocacy through organizations dedicated to supporting and promoting the arts in her immediate community and beyond.
