April 3, 2018
2:00 pm - 4:00 pm
Barnett Center Collaboratory

Join the Barnett Center for a conversation with Dr. Carole Genshaft, Columbus Museum of Art (CMA) Curator-at-Large, as she discusses Aminah Robinson Estate at CMA: Challenges and Opportunities. This talk will be held Tuesday, April 3rd from 2:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. in the Barnett Center Collaboratory.

When Columbus artist Aminah Brenda Lynn Robinson passed away in 2015, she left almost her entire estate to the CMA. This presentation explores the responsibility of the museum to secure the artist’s legacy in dealing with ongoing issues regarding the documentation, preservation, and dissemination of her work; the future of her home; and collaborations with interested stakeholders.

Carole M. Genshaft is currently supervising the organization and documentation of the Aminah Robinson Estate that was left to the museum in 2015. She has curated and co-curated many exhibitions about the life and work of Columbus artist Aminah Robinson including Symphonic Poem, a retrospective of the artist’s work, that traveled nationally in 2006. In addition, Dr. Genshaft has written Aminah’s World, a children’s book about the life and art of Robinson (Columbus Museum of Art, 2017). The CMA created and operates the website Aminah's World, which allows visitors of the site to see Aminah Robinson's work, understand her processes, and share their responses to her work.

This event is part of the Barnett Center’s 2017-2018 Speaker Series, Home Grown Pros: 20 years of reflections from AAEP connections.
