Tres Perkins is a second-year master’s student studying percussion performance under Dr. Susan Powell. Hailing from Abilene, Texas, Tres recently completed his undergraduate degree in music education at McMurry University. During his time in Abilene, Tres performed with many regional chamber groups, such as the Civic Orchestra of Abilene, the Abilene Community Band, and Revolution Strings. He toured with the Crossmen Drum and Bugle Corps for the 2019 season and continually works with many marching percussion ensembles throughout west Texas. As a soloist, he was a winner of the Civic Orchestra of Abilene Concerto/Aria Competition and a Finalist in the Eastern Music Festival Concerto Competition. Tres is a recent recipient of the McMurry Music Ambassador Award for the 2021-2022 academic year and is also the recipient of the Raymond T. “Prof” Bynum Award for Outstanding Music Service. As a former student of OSU alumni Dr. Johnny Mendoza, Tres is incredibly excited to join the prestigious Buckeye family.
