Cassie Patterson, Ph.D. is Assistant Director of the Center for Folklore Studies (CFS) at Ohio State University, Director of the CFS Archives, and co-facilitator of The Appalachian Project, Ohio. Her dissertation, “Reflections from Elsewhere: Ambivalence, Recuperation, and Empathy in Moral Geographies of Appalachian Ohio,” explores the ways in which students from Appalachian Ohio both construct and reflect upon their relationship with home in ways that are responsive to the expectations of family members, peers, outsiders, and discourses of success and failure. Dr. Patterson’s research interests include folklore studies, Appalachian studies, commemoration and public display, post-industrial Ohio, home and place, and moral geographies.
