Abstract: This presentation will provide advice and insights on artist interviews and explore how interviews can be a valuable teaching tool.
Bio: Dan Shellenbarger is an artist, educator, and manager of a statewide PBS station, The Ohio Channel, which he helped to create in 1996. He is a two-time Emmy award winning documentary director and editor. His video art and his video constructions have appeared in shows around the country. Dan has used his art background to create the quarterly PBS program “Spotlight” which is in its 12th year of production. This program showcases interviews artworks from more than 400— and growing—local, regional, national and international artists.
Dan’s documentary work concentrates on art and architecture and explores the sources of inspiration and how individuals are driven to create. Dan has had his paintings and photography published in state and national publications.
Dan taught art for 17 years in the Department of Art at The Ohio State University where he created 3 classes on video art, interactive art and podcasting as art. He is currently working on his Ph.D. in Ohio State’s Arts Administration, Education, and Policy Department.
